onomao is the idea of ​​combining beautiful products from traditional craftsmanship with modern design. Sustainability and fair trade are basic requirements for us. Due to our close roots in Portugal, in the summer of 2018 we started looking for Portuguese manufacturers with whom we could start a collaboration on an equal footing. onomao is the result of our search.

Our products are created in close cooperation with small manufacturers in Portugal. If you would like to find out more about our producers, you can find more information here .

Sustainable action is very important to us. Our carpets are woven from fabric scraps from the Portuguese fashion industry, the clay of our ceramics comes from the region of our potteries and is a purely natural product. We see fair trade with our producers and transparency as a basic requirement. Production within the EU guarantees short delivery routes with less CO2 emissions. We ship our products completely plastic-free. We only use FSC-certified paper as packaging material. We also reuse the packages from returns and from our producers. We send our packages with DHL GoGreen to support CO2-neutral shipping. Since our products are timeless in quality and design, they are per se more sustainable than anything that is produced to be thrown away quickly. We see careful use of our planet's resources as a duty and we will try to become even better in the future.

Our ceramics are manufactured in factories in Portugal, the raw material is a purely natural product and comes from the region.

We use stoneware for our ceramic tableware collections (Traditional, Classic and Aberta). Stoneware is fired at a temperature of at least 1,130 degrees to maintain its specific density and thus robustness. Our products are therefore waterproof even without glaze. Since stoneware is a natural product and each piece has a different composition, our unglazed products made of pure clay can vary slightly in color - naturally.

Porcelain consists of the raw materials kaolin, feldspar, quartz and clay.

It differs from other ceramic products by the presence of three unique and fundamental technical properties: hardness, whiteness and translucency.

Porcelain has a high mechanical strength, low porosity and high density, which makes it durable, harmless, soft to the touch and beautiful in everyday life. Porcelain is produced using higher firing temperatures and is largely insensitive to temperature fluctuations. It is fired at up to 1400°C, which makes the material robust.

We develop our glazes in collaboration with our own manufacturer to create typical tones that fit perfectly into our onomao color world. There are a number of ways to apply the glazes. The ceramic is either dipped, painted or sprayed. In all variants, the colors are applied by hand. The firing process fuses the glaze with the ceramic and gives it a resistant surface. We have our glazes regularly tested by TÜV or other independent institutes. This means we can rule out that they contain substances that are harmful to health or the environment.

We are very open and transparent. We check possible regional distances and/or conceptual overlaps between our customers. If necessary, we enter into discussions with all parties.
